There seems to be a wider range of age groups as well for new joiners. 5-10 years ago, the age gap might have been 5 years between new hires. Now it looks like upwards of 10-15 years in some cases.
Those young people in their late 20's hired in the last couple years can afford to wait 10 years for command, not a big deal. They'll likely need the extra experience anyway. To those in your late 30's and older, it becomes a bigger issue and more of a consideration. Starting now, command we'll certainly be well over what used to be the norm of 3-5 years. I agree, plan on 10 years if hired today.
