If the aircraft
was unairworthy (and I put it no more strongly than that) then it is entirely possible that the crew, whilst doing their utmost to discharge their responsibilities, were prevented from so doing by a systems failure/UFCM/FADEC runaway/erroneous position info or one/some of many other possibilities.
