explains some of the customer service...

from today's CNN:
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) says a total 106 airport workers at three Southern California airports have been indicted on immigration charges and are being arrested.

The DOT's inspector general made the announcement Friday morning. A press conference is scheduled at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles for later in the day.

The workers -- at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), John Wayne Airport in Orange County and Los Angeles' Ontario Airport -- are accused of lying about their immigration status and providing false Social Security numbers on their applications for security badges.

The majority of the employees worked in "custodial, maintenance or food service jobs at the airports, though some worked as security screeners," the DOT inspector general's office said in a written statement.

The people charged had security badges that gave them access to the most secure areas of the airport, including access to planes, runways, ramps leading to planes and/or cargo areas, according to the statement.

As of August 16, "366 people have been arrested at 17 airports, and 381 have been indicted. Of those, 231 have pleaded guilty or have plea agreements pending, and 124 have been deported or are awaiting deportation proceedings," according to the office of the DOT's inspector general.

I'm based in the San Francisco bay area and the crowd of security screeners at SFO is a real sight. Mostly recent Filipino immigrants with limited English, giving proof to the "give a little person a little power..." theory.
A complete farce at SFO all the time.
