Just thought I'd post to say that both my mother and grandmother experienced something very similar, which turned out to be migraine.
During an attack, my grandmother noted that the entire one side of a persons face appeared missing when she looked at them. My mother also experienced the same.
As far as I'm aware, neither were diagnosed with TIA. Gran died some years ago, at the age of nearly 80 from a heart attack, and mum is still here (and I hope she continues to be for a long time).
I'd definately get a second opinion on what you have experienced, it may well be migraine, or some other sort of neuron electrical disturbance, as opposed to a TIA
