I find it a bit worriesome to see how people seem to think that the behaviour of the simulator with a programmed failure of somekind is somehow a valid indication to forecast how an actual airplane will behave in real life.
If simulators are as unreliable as you think, then what is the point in having them. A multi-million dollar flight simulator is not just a expensive play thing for pilots. I include the space shuttle simulator. There are well known limitations on what a simulator can faithfully replicate but I am sure the fidelity of the majority of known engine non-normals are pretty close to the real thing.
