The problem with BOH is that the people running the airport have not got a clue what they are doing!
Believe it or not, the airport management still think that Ryanair will still be basing up to 6 aircraft at BOH within the next few years! This is despite every other sane person knowing that Ryanair are telling porky pies! They think that because Ryanair signed a contract they will deliver! Since when has a contarct meant anything to Ryanair?
Because of this, Ryanair, even though they have no aircraft there at present are still calling all the shots at the airport.
It appears that Thomson Airways are the sole remaining loyal customer that the airport has at BOH, and how are they rewarded. The airport brings in Thomas Cook next year, which will be offering almost exactly the same product as Thomson. Brilliant! So now they potentially have 2 half empty aircraft flying the same routes.
Eastern Airways, which is one of the customers the airport is trying to attract, divert in the other day. They are parked up on remote stands and the airport has no bus drivers (usually the firemen) to drive the pax to and from the terminal. Result-they are driven out to the a/c on the ambulift. This is hardly showing what a smooth operator the new £45 million airport is.
Also, when BHX was closed the other day, the airport turns away up to 10 diverts as they never had enough fire cover.
Until the airport gets the infrastructure in place alongside the nice new terminal, it will always be a Mickey Mouse village airport.
