Problems with buried (as opposed to podded) engines:
- Harder to access for servicing
- Usually harder to change.
- The wing spar has to be designed specifically to accommodate them. Can result in a structure not ideal from stress and fatigue viewpoints. Also can mean that it is difficult to upgrade to a different engine mid-life.
Potential problem with adjacent engines:
An uncontained failure in one engine can damage its neighbour.
