I am reading with great interest the comments on this forum. It is only now, that I realise, that the images of the punctured wing available in the media leave something to be desired, for they have been taken from the lower deck. As a passenger on board of QF32, I managed to take a few photos when it happened. Unfortunately I could not get hold of my camera (phone), while the fire was burning, therefore this picture will have to do. The view from the upper deck was excellent, but it was not possible, to see, what actually caused the main hole (diameter appx. 70-80cm), it happened too fast. What intrigued me however, was the smaller more rectangular hole closer to the fuselage (bottom of the image). If this was penetrated by something shaped like a fan blade, it must have hit the fuselage as well. When we had to exit the plane on starboard, there was no way, to have a closer look.
