The way it's written implies that gravity is in some way
unreliable. If the writer has knowledge of localized lack or weakness of gravitaional force in the vicinity of aircraft, I would suggest they are in the wrong career!
Note that the crew
also "had to rely on gravity" to bring the plane down out of the sky and onto the ground, and, once stopped, they had to rely on gravity to keep the plane on the ground while everyone got off it. Somehow these didn't get a mention...
