The procedure now is simply to let yourself out of a secure gate, and you're out into the big wide world. On returning, you check in to the reception at the newly put together GA handling office (I forget its name), you pay the fee and then walk back in through the same gate
All I can say is, enjoy it while it lasts. Yemeni cargo issues are driving yet another knee-jerk and any airport with commercial traffic will sooner or later demand that all airside access is via full scanner + search facilities.
And I'm trying not to let my bitter experience get in the way of my judgement.
