Enormous waterfall

Does anyone here, flying in the area southeast of Mt. Michael, southwest of Tarabo and pretty due south of Gimi, recall seeing an enormous waterfall or rapids, possibly on the yani river at the location marked on the chart? My father described this waterfall in his memoires. He was taking part in a reconaissance flight in that area in February 1959. They were traveling in a Cessna 170 and could hear the thunder of the rapids above the sound of the ac engine (Iīve never flown in 170, but canīt imagine it being very quiet in the cabin).
Another spectacular scene viewed during this flight, must have been further west, southeast of Mt.Karimui. He describes a shear, nearly vertical wall of about 900ft height, running pretty much due north to south as far as they could see from the aircraft. He describes it as red clay or rock, with barely any vegetation growing on it.
So if anyone remembers seeing this, or even better, would have any photograhs of it, please let me know. Here or as PM.
Thanks
SP
