Yes you can buy a 4 bedroom house for around 200k in Maryland, but it's probably going to be about 60 years old.
And $250,000 (a quarter of a million sounds much better) Will not get you much in Australia. In fact you would be hard pressed now to find a bloc of land that cheap!
Starting prices for units these days are $300,000 plus in less than desirable locations. You have it pretty good in the US in regards to property, especially in Florida!
