In 1948 the first powered aircraft was designed and built by Wiweko Soepono, the WEL-1 (Wiweko Experimental Lightplane). Driven by a second-hand 750 cc Harley Davidson motorcycle engine it flew the first time on October 27, 1948. In 1981 Wiweko built two flying replica’s powered by a VW Revmaster; one is at the Yogyakarta aviation museum, the other at the Satrya aviation museum.
