SFO is not lost to QANTAS, just being replaced by another "group" airline. You guessed it J*'s first foray into mainland North America....OAK (Oakland). QANTAS pulls out of SFO due "poor loads", replaced 6 months later by a new J* 787 service with great fanfare. Can't have that pesky QANTAS service getting in the way of J* expansion can we......who do you think this is.......QANTAS???
