Norfolk Island, has a system installed by Honeywell called a SCAT 1; it requires a special reciever to be fitted to the a/c; Flightwest were going to fit and use the system before they went broke; the system uses a ground based GPS( ie differential) and the display to the pilot utilises the ILS display; you simply fly it as an ILS to Cat 1 minima, hence S(pecial) CAT(egory) 1.

The military TLS is a self contained, transportable system; it uses the a/c transponder to work out the bearing and distance from the runway( it uses 2 arrays of 3 aerials/ it works out the bearing/elevation using the time difference of signal reception to figure out the angle); the TLS then transmits the ILS frequency signals to the a/c with the 90/150 modulations of the L/R of LLZ or FU/FD of the GP incorporated in the signal to indicate where the a/c is reference to centreline and glidepath; the display to the pilot is via the ILS display( the a/c must have the ILS tuned to the freq.) it's just like flying an ILS.
