I just put colour tags around a couple of characters of a tag to stop it working. It then looks correct.
E.g.
To get:
[quote]
Put in:
[qu00000]o[/color]te]
or
[qublack]o[/color]te]
Obviously you select a colour that matches the text you are entering, so the change is invisible.
It sometimes helps if you choose to use the standard editor in your profile options, because the WYSIWYG editor hides most tags.
This works on pretty much any forum you come across that
vB codes. This forum includes the [nop
arse] tag which stops all tags being interpreted:
E.g.
[noparse][img]http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/smile.gif[/img][/noparse]
Results in:
