Taking you're luggage with you shouldn't be a problem, I don't think you would be travelling with a whole truckload of luggage.
About you staying in a hotel 20min away from the airport I wouldn't know what the problem would be with that.
Myself I had been driving from Belgium with my car and I had been staying over at a friends place in London so the day itself I still had the part London Bournemouth I needed to travel.
Seriously why are you worried about a 20min travelling time prior to your test?
