Having spent my last years of service at Kinloss and with Nimrod, my thoughts go out to all still there whose best efforts and hard work to introduce the MRA4 and their futures and dreams have today gone up in smoke.
It has not been mentioned in the media but again BAES has a lot to answer for. Not only has its greed in the development process delayed and escalated the wasted spend to date, it was its unjustifiable and unaffordable support costs to keep the aircraft operating in the years to come that I believe was the final nail in the coffin.
As far as Wittering is concerned, I always understood that the land would require zillions to clean up for before it could be handed over.
