Need FAR 61.58 (f) guru

Can someone help me out with 61.58 (f) which reads, in part:

(f) For the purpose of meeting the pilot-in-command proficiency check requirements of paragraph (a) of this section, a person may act as pilot in command of a flight under day VFR conditions or day IFR conditions if no person or property is carried, other than as necessary to demonstrate compliance with this part.

Here is the situation. I have been asked to assist in the ferry of a CitationJet that has been repossessed and is being taken to a maintenance facility. I am type rated in the aircraft but haven't flown it for over two years. The aircraft requires two flight crewmembers. I am being asked, along with another pilot, to ferry (under a permit) the aircraft from point A to point B. When I explained that I wasn't current, this paragraph was pointed out to me with "You can sit in the right seat and provide proficiency training to the other pilot" under this provision. That sounded very odd to me as the other pilot is not type rated in the aircraft. Both of us regularly fly part 135 ops so are generally current but not in two man crew aircraft.

My read of 'demonstrate compliance' is to actually do a check-ride (which I obviously cannot do). I would think that someone in the plane would need to be current and at least have 12 month check. At this point in time, I am going to gracefully decline as it just doesn’t make sense.
