Sorry, but this subject is a bit annoying. Another word for current is 'valid.'
Yes for renewal purposes you need to complete a LPC, but if it's expired you require more training (and you'd have to read up on JAR OPS for that, a TRE I flew with the other day seemed to suggest that it's 2 sim sessions prior to LPC)
Question is simple, is your rating valid- if it's expired, answer is no! Bit like asking if I can fly for my current airline if my rating LPC validity expired last week, of course I can't.
