Hi R_M
A DAMO job would roughly equate to a Duty Officer position as far as pax work is concerned.
Few will recruit from outside for this kind of position.

I was 'lucky' enough to get a cargo DO position after I left, which didn't last past GW1 as I was oggy (after my 6) at the time and branson wasn't feeling very patriotic.

I left the UK and was DO for a couple of airlines and even got a gig as an ops controller with another one of bransons' efforts - mostly a 'right place at the right time' situation.

Luck will play a huge part, especially in the current climate.
Only 2 of the 5 airlines I worked for are still operating globally, the second , Aeroflot, a much smaller entity than it used to be.

My advice would be to retrain for something else as the industry is no longer worth it.
If you haven't left yet, choose your resettlement carefully.
If you are thinking of PVRing , Bastion can't be that bad - sure the hell beats Crawley !
When you see pilots and engineers being treated like dirt, you know it's time to pull the black and yellow handle.
One airline that I worked for actually took direct entry ops staff from Tesco -controllers, on their own after 3 or so months.

You will not work with the same calibre of guys/girls again and no matter how badly run you thought the RAF was you will not be prepared for the muppet show operation that SOME companies run.(good companies are like westabouts and almost impossible to get into).

It seems like the business is in a race to the bottom.
I currently work for a maintenance facility and it looks like we will arrive at the bottom first in our heat.

I have been a mover one way or the other for over 25 years and I have to say the civvy side sucked the most and the level of management , competency wise , would have to be consistently the lowest in any industry - with only a few exceptions.

Sorry to sound so negative, but thats the way I see it.
I have just finished 2nd year engineering which I am doing in my spare time, greeted with total apathy by my current employer.
