China Air Sees Strong Jan-Aug Profit

Net profit at Taiwan carrier China Airlines will exceed TWD$10 billion (USD$316 million) for the January to August period, a company source said on Tuesday, helped by income from mainland China operations.
The company, which also said on Tuesday it will join the Sky Team global alliance, is returning to profit after losses of some TWD$5 billion in the first three quarters of last year, due largely to the global slowdown.
In the first two quarters of this year, profit reached TWD$6.3 billion.
The source, who asked not to be identified, said a global recovery and new flights to mainland China had pushed up revenues in January-August by 30 percent for passenger operations and 1.3 times for freight.
