The case for a major airport at Doncaster was always fragile. The Public Enquiry demonstrated that. Surrounded by established airports already providing capacity which exceeded demand. However a lot of poitical support [the Flint factor], huge European Funding, promises of 7000 jobs etc and the rest is history. The Manchester Group objections at the enquiry, seen as sour grapes at the time and the possible reason for their investment in Humberside, have actually proved to be pretty accurate!

Sad really, splended airfield, layout, buildings, navaids etc, especially when compared with some of its competitor airfields but just not enough pasengers to make it viable. I suspect that every time an operator fails at Docaster, other airlines will be more hesitant to dip their toes in the water.

Shame for the Doncaster employees, the locals who do use the airport and of course for the taxpayers who have made such a huge contribution.

Let's hope for better days at Doncaster, but maybe don't hold your breath!
