If you can work in this country (USA) and be here a while I think you should go the CFI route to build up your time. You should also work on your IR if your ultimate goal is offshore, ems, exec transport.
There are a few operators in the LAX area offerring B206 time starting at $120 and hour, 25 hour blocks per week.
I think it all depends on your ultimate goal - so state it !!!
I've taken a few graduate level courses that covered personal development. It's important to have a development plan and follow it. Even Da Vinci had a personal development plan !
