Tis' a very nice thread.
I would like to quote from Douglas Jerrold
"The best thing I know between France and England is the sea."
This also applies of course, but with more water, to us and the US. (Or to the US and us).
But the most apt quotation I can think of for US and us is by Frederick Marryat (l792-1848):-
"Every man paddle his own canoe."
