I would see Darren almost daily here in PNG. We became close friends in the the 8 months he was here. I talked to him the morning of the crash and we promised to catch-up at the 'Dero' for some 'product testing' later.
I have just arrived back from the gathering for the return of the bodies from Misima. It was very moving with most of his work mates from CASA PNG there.
Sorry I couldn't bring you back yesterday mate, the weather was too iffy for us once we reached Gurney, but the guys in the Twotter did a good job today. We had a many a beer at the aeroclub last night for you mate. I don't think you realised how many people were fond of you.
I will miss you mate, your funny wicked humour, your professional manner when it came to work matters, and the fact that underneath the gruff loud full-on bloke you were, you had an absolute heart of gold.
I hope to be at Leonora for your final send-off.
