The pay is significantly less on Mixed Fleet, however, and at Air NZ there are more opportunities for advancement within InFlight. My understanding is that with allowances, Mixed Fleet will pay the same hourly per diem rate that CityFlyer pays, and that is it. Air New Zealand still pays the good old fashioned way: meal allowances and overtime which significantly add to your take home pay. It might be nice to go different places, but if the pay is bad, after a while the novelty wears thin and you will find yourself looking for another job anyways, as being in a permanent flat share situation (with 4-5 people) as an adult gets very tiring. If you get paid well and have good leave allowance, you can go visit the world on your passes. The layovers are not like they used to be on Long Haul with BA, so your are looking at many night stops and perhaps even min rest on Euro trips (they do this to be competitive with low cost carriers). Looking at the original proposal of where Mixed Fleet will fly, it seems like it will be like the 'good old days' when East Africa came down to LGW in the '90s. You will fly to the horrid long haul destinations no one wants (and BA will do this purposely to ease the change of everyone being forced to Mixed Fleet eventually), and the over the top American boom towns in the USA, mixed in with lovely Eastern Euro ports of call. So, in the beginning, you will basically pay your dues. I would opt for LAX and HKG, long before EBB and SOF anyday.
