I dont think that the cost is the complete issue in whether airlines like EI and FR choose to use airbridges but more the speed of boarding as not using airbridge means that back and front exits used and hence faster time to offload/board the aircraft.
Interestingly, I see FR using airbridges at LGW a fair bit!!
