the CASA and JAA licenses allow you to take the theory examinations and your ATPL remains frozen until you've got 1500hrs
Or more precisely, CASA is frozen until 1500 hrs but under FAA you only get a theory exam credit as you still need a checkride after 1500 hrs to obtain your FAA ATPL. In practice however it doesn't make any difference for KA.
