WelshAirDragon, you suggest that CWL might commit to supporting new routes through marketing, rather than rate discounts.

Thanks to his induction by Carlos del Rio, the Mexican CEO of Spanish-owned TBI/Abertis (both Mexico and Spain have not yet introduced competition into their airport systems), our blarney expert PD does not believe an airport should advertise its routes ... he sees that as the job of the airlines.

Patrick has the same view as the manager of a motorway service station: his measure of success is about increasing profit per passenger, not increasing passenger numbers. He will not spend anything more than pocket money to support new routes/airlines.

If you see any apparent route investment claimed by CWL, look a little closer to find the real source. It could well be you, the taxpayer. That's why CWL couldn't get Delta, as WAN pointed out some weeks ago. The funding decision lay with the Welsh Assembly Govt, not TBI/Abertis - who wouldn't do it despite their powerful financial status as one of Europe's biggest corporations. When Ieuan Wyn Jones said no to spending Euro-cash in a dubious fashion, the deal fell apart. Quite right.

Well, that's my humble opinion anyway.
