Heard by an SLF some years ago:

CC: 'Sir, would you like a chicken salad or beef casserole?'

Native English speaking PAX across aisle from me: 'Is the salad cold?'

CC (with straight face) 'Salads usually are, sir, but I can warm it up if you wish.'
