You might consider yourself lucky to have stayed flying after the F-4 though; one pilot in the 70s felt that the F-4 was no longer for him and asked if he could cross-train to a type that he would be more at ease with, as he felt he still had much to offer. They gave him his P45, without even a ground job option. Who said honesty was the best policy?
