I am also a bit surprised by the following quote from the BEA report :
An ELT distress beacon with manual tripping was also recovered. This had not been actuated. Its switch was found in the “OFF” position.
... would be nice to have a picture of that device.
On the A330s I know, there are 3 ELTs :
- One is fixed and activates on impact :
- The other two are portable and automatically activate by simple immersion in the water (no manual switch of any kind).
