In the case of Airbus, it would seem logical to place the Automatic Fixed ELT in the Vertical Stabilizer. It has been proven that that part of the aircraft will survive impact with both
terra firma and
terra oceania. My understanding is that the device is currently located in the A330 on stringers above the cabin. Maybe someone has seen a photo showing the actual location of the ELT antenna?
