ATC and the World Cup
A few observations from flying Budapest-Manchester yesterday evening while the World Cup Final was in play:
1. 121.5 was virtually unuseable - a combination of sport commentary and irate pilots trying to quieten the frequency.
2. There seemed to be rather more ATC female voices than usual.
3. Quite a bit a background chat while ATC was transmitting.
4. Early handovers.
5. Manchester Tower and Ground being run by just one controller during quite a busy phase. We got landing clearance at 200ft because it was apparently more important to give the BA who had cleared well in front of us some taxi instructions!
Interesting...
