The upshot of it all is that you must determine what response rate is really necessary for keeping the control loops for the aircraft stable while filtering out enough noise that the aircraft is not trying to respond to turbulence that is better damped out by wing design.
Right on! Back in the Jurassic Age, I was taught that in heavy turbulence you should disconnect the autopilot because it would react with inappropriately strong control inputs. The question now becomes: Will more modern autopilots recognize that an easy hand on the controls is best or should we disconnect and concentrate on maintaining pitch attitude?
