AVGAS consumption

A comment on another thread got me in research mode..dug up the
ABARE Energy Report 2010 and came up with some AVGAS consumption figures.

The figures were-(page 18)

90 Ml 2003/04
91 Ml 04/05
86 Ml 05/06
90 Ml 06/07
88 Ml 07/08
96 Ml 08/09

I thought..."This is odd!" I remember a graph used by certain members from a certain members website...

Very Odd!

So checked further back from ABARE and found

Australian Energy Consumption and Production (Page 118)

PJ
2.1 73/74 32.3Ml
1.9 76/77 29.2 Ml
3.2 79/80 49.2 Ml
5.2 82/83 80.0 Ml
6.5 85/86 100.0 Ml
7.0 87/88 107.7 Ml
7.5 89/90 115.4 Ml
5.9 90/91 90.8 Ml
4.7 91/92 72.3 Ml
5.8 92/93 89.2 Ml
5.1 93/94 78.5Ml
5.4 94/95 83.1 Ml

Hmmm...the fuel crisis in 76/77 is there when a refinery went arseup for AVGAS production.

Interesting look at how figures can be manipulated and presented...Maybe I have my fuel conversion wrong from PJ back to Ml of AVGAS but...there you go people...even though we all think this industry is dieing...someone is flying and using AVGAS at near 1990 peak levels.

Basic assumption. Hours drop from a 1989/1990 peak to 1994 and then level out and start rising again to near peak levels...that is NOT what the graph shows.

OR...

GA CHTR and AWK increases markedly from 1994 on as private and business flying drops.....maybe the Bureau has picked a very narrow description that fits an assumption....adds food for thought for the $0.0387 per litre excise that goes to the CASA.
