Please accept my apologies. I respect your position and have been there myself.

That said, I talk to many Brits who will proudly announce that they 'pay off their credit cards by the end of the month' and then give a generalised diatribe against people who live in debt. Next topic seems to be how bloody clever they are switching their mortgages.

Carry on doing it the right way. Don't work for the banks!
