MOST US airlines higher furloughed pilots. SOME of them require the pilots to resign their seniority, but many do not even do that. They figure that a certain number will stick with them, and those that return will serve for enough time at the new airline to make it worth while.
The current rate of returning off of furlough for the US pilots who have been furloughed long-term is only about 50%. Additionally, EK pilots have to be current with jet time in the past 12 months, so unemployed pilots, or, those furloughed more than about 6 months ago are not elligible for EK.
