The reasons given to you are correct. Thomson have had some long delays due to aircraft technical issues over the last week or two, one of which is still grounded with problems. One aircraft used for short haul was deployed on long haul as an aircraft was grounded in Cancun, hence the knock-on delays of up to 17 hours. These things happen i'm afraid.
