Gator is spyware. To get rid, try downloading and installing adaware
ADAWARE .Probably won't fix your other problem though but you could do my old favorite, the 'system restore'. Yours is the sort of problem it was introduced for. (me/2000/xp os's have the 'system restore' feature)
