Further to my posting earlier, I made it to Ratamala in Sri Lanka, their main transport base.
This is a wonderful museum! It is not dogged by a seemingly endless stream of US-produced machinery. There you see machines of style and quality, means and muscle.... British (the quality bit!), Italian (the style bit!) and Russian (the muscle bit!).
Here's one flying example of their exhibits. They also fly Chipmunks and SIAI Marchetti SF260s regularly. The static exhibits include rarities such as a Pioneer, two (yes, two) Balliols, two Jet Provost 51s, various DH machines, MIG-15 and -17 plus two Chinese-built FT-5s, an AN-32, and much more. The non-flying exhibits are wonderful too!!!!
All this is watched at leisure to the wonderous background sounds of Antonov 32s and other types arriving and departing...... Nice, nice, nice.....!
Sorry this shot was hand-held in natural light at 1/50sec.
I forgot to say that visiting is by
prior permission only. Details of how to do that are on the SLAF website.
