Been there too: Been furloughed a few times. Know the feeling.
As for the US Virgin Isles. (Where ya qualify only I should think?)
Check out Cape Air.
They have a fairly regular turn-over and fly C-402s at a "local rate"
Not too bad, not too good.
They get paid by duty hours, not flight hours.
Seems to be a clean operation however.
I spent 3 years + down there some years ago.
Good place.
