I believe that the Brittania used in filming crashed in serious icing conditions near Boston, Massachussets, shortly after filming was complete. I survivor if my memory serves me correctly. Sad.
I think you're thinking of the early eighties series "Buccaneer." Loosely inspired by Red Coat air cargo, one of whose Brittanias was repainted to represent the fictional airline "Red Air".
