Regardless of the number of engines, under ICAO procedures an engine fire requires a Mayday call. Once the fire is out you can downgrade it to a Pan.
Engine fire? Or engine failure? I don't believe there was a fire as such, although onlookers may believe that's what they saw when they saw the fireworks shooting out the back of the engine.
Also, it's interesting that the QF5 had so much more coverage than the QF1 out of BKK last week (same thing, though maybe the QF1's engine failure was slightly worse...)
