I remember the "Viewing Balcony" and Piers at Manch. Entry was a "Shilling" [5p] with a furthur 5p for each pier. When Pier C was opened there was a flat rate of 2 bob [10p] for unlimited access, good value or what?
There was a photo in Flight yonks ago of the first B747 landing at Manch, and the end of the piers looked like a bee hive with spectators climbing off the ends [yes, you "could" get on the Apron, through (unlocked) gates]
