You could try opening the Error Console in Safari. To do this, you need to go to Safari Preferences, click on the Advanced tab and click on the "Show Develop in Menu Bar" box. A Develop menu will appear; select "Show Error Console". This might bring up some alerts which might be helpful.

Resetting Safari should have done the trick. You could also try deleting the .plist file which is in:
Macintosh HD>Users>Library>Preferences>com.apple.Safari.plist
(quit Safari first, then delete the .plist file).
