Not so long ago an inquisitive pax comes into the rear galley for a chat about the aircraft. Among the questions is how many business pax are carried. 'Well we have two business cabins on this aircraft, one on this deck and one upstairs' I reply. 'Is this plane that big, I didn't know there was an upstairs' he questions. 'Oh yes, the staircase is by the second set of doors, you must have missed it when you boarded.' 'I'd like to see that if I could, I've never been on such a big aircraft.' After a short consideration I reply 'the meal service will be finished shortly so if you make your way forward and ask the crew I'm sure they would be happy to show you the upper deck.' And off he pops with a 'brilliant.'
My colleague is staring at me. 'Did you do that on purpose?' he asks, 'no why should I, what do you mean?' 'That bloke is going to ask the crew to see upstairs...' and I'm thinking have I made a security booboo, '....and we're on a Boeing 767.'
