It is a well known fact that certain NAA's on the continent dish out Part-66 AML's like packets of sweets. Some have even granted full B1 and B2 licences on the back on completing a type course. Our dear friends at EASA ensure us there is a level playing field and this type of business does not go on. I think this is the point simonchowder was trying to make. He recruits mechanics and LAE's and will verify that a lot of employers/agencies won't entertain you now unless you have an original UK or AUS issued ticket, many years hands-on and have served a recognised apprenticeship.

146 - I agree there are some UK B1/B2 chancers out there but in my experience they are in the minority compared to some of our brothers from Europe.
