At least the helicopter chances of employment are better than fixed wing however. Not to mention better paid on the North Sea if what I'm told is true. £80-100K to work half a year + pension + benefits!!

It'll still cost you about £100k+ for the CPL(H),IR(H) from scratch, and then you'll have no experience in a market place where there are many looking for work. Work half a year, pension, benefits? I suggest you talk directly with the guys doing the job, rather than what you hear from second hand sources.
